Marathon Training

Those of you that don’t know a group of girls and I have come together to start training for our first 1/2 marathon.  We first started out with just a couple of us but now our group has grown to about 7 of us.  We are in the 4th week of training and we are all so dedicated!  We have been bit by the running bug!  We are up to 5 miles for our long runs and move to 6 miles next week.  At first it was very mental for me but now it’s my body that’s starting to ache.  I’m sure the mental will come back as our runs get longer.  The best part of it all is that 7 women have come together pushing each other to keep going through each of our sticking points.  The atmosphere is amazing!!  Most the time women can be pretty hard on each other and I was a little nervous that there was going to be some competition, but everyone is being so supportive of each other.  It’s truly amazing!  I look forward to and am excited for every one of our runs.

Try it out, ask a group of your friends to go to the gym with you and set a schedule so that you’re accountable.  Or set up a runners club with a group of girls or even with the husbands.  Even if you have to start with 1 mile to get you going, honestly most of us aren’t runners, some had a hard time with 1 mile, but are up to 5 now!  We have all set goals as well.  Some are to run the 3 mile runs without stopping or run a little faster mile.  That keeps us pushing ourselves and each other.  The team atmosphere is amazing, give it a try, it will keep you motivated and you may even lose a few pounds doing it!
